The Saratoga
expedition, led by Lieutenant General John Burgoyne, was to be in the
minds of
Lord George Germain, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and King
George
III a huge step in the direction of defeating the Americans in
rebellion.It would
isolate the New England
colonies, where they could more easily be conquered. However, due to problems with supplies,
Indian actions, American fighting ability, terrain, and communication,
the British
were unable to succeed.The
British
failure happened to be momentous. The Saratoga
campaign proved that the rag-tag rebels could
defeat the British Empire,
thus solidifying an
alliance between France and the American Colonies.
